By the time the Rio Grande reaches Alamosa, it has slowed down to a leisurely pace. This makes the waters perfect for floating! This stretch is also popular for beginners to raft and kayak. In recent years, stand-up paddleboarding has become more popular as well. On Sundays during the summer, you can attend Weekends on the Rio, which features stand-up paddleboard classes along with live music and other fun activities. Both stand-up paddleboard and kayaking equipment can be rented from Adams State University Adventure Program.
This beautiful winding river offers a plethora of ways to recreate locally while taking in the majestic views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Learn more about different ways to enjoy the Rio Grande here.
