Society Hall
Society Hall, located in the heart of Alamosa, is rapidly becoming the choice music venue in Alamosa for performing artists who appreciate superb acoustics and a uniquely intimate environment. In the space of one year, Society Hall went from a vacant building to a dream come true for a local group of community members and musicians. This group saw the old building for all of its potential. They believed this could be a much needed, new venue for music. The acoustics were phenomenal, it already had a stage, and has over 200 chairs. A small group of passionate community members set out to raise the $60,000 needed to purchase the vacant church. A truly generous couple made the group an interest-free loan to purchase the building.
Built as a church for the Christian Science Society in 1922, it’s a charming structure with a wide porch framed with pillars. The concert hall itself, once the main room in the church, consists of a central aisle that leads to a small stage. The church didn’t have pews, instead, individual chairs cover a floor that is sloped so that the stage is visible for all attendees. This of course was ideal for creating an intimate music venue. Out of respect for the history of the building, the building was renamed Society Hall.
The Society Hall Foundation received a 501(c)(3) status in June of 2015, completed the purchase of the building on August 3rd, and held the first concert in September. Several upgrades and renovations took place between events, bringing an upgraded and polished look to the venue. Since opening in 2015, the Society Hall has hosted comedy shows, fundraisers for other organizations, puppet shows, string quartets, conferences, private functions, and of course,… music! A common theme that has been expressed by every performer at the “Hall” is that it is a wonderfully warm venue in which to perform, with a wonderfully appreciative audience. Beer, wine, soft drinks and light gourmet snacks help to make the Society Hall a venue that is attractive to all ages of those seeking an evening of entertainment.
